John Hazapis is a life-long Clatskanie resident, with the exception of his time spent in college obtaining his degree in education. Mr. Hazapis currently works as a math and science teacher at Clatskanie Middle High School, where he started during the 2005-2006 school year.

Mr. Hazapis decided to run for the Clatskanie Parks and Recreation district so that he could become more involved in the community in a position that would have an impact on the youth in Clatskanie. After calling Clatskanie his home for his entire life, he wanted the children in the district to have the same experiences he had growing up. Part of that includes seeing some of the activities and opportunities from his youth come back today.

During his teenage years, Mr. Hazapis was employed by the Clatskanie Parks and Recreation district and participated in the Parks and Recreation activities as a young kid. He learned to swim at the Clatskanie Swimming Pool and spent the majority of his summers with his friends at the night swims. Mr. Hazapis would like to see the parks continue to be a positive and welcoming focal point in the community through the various activities and events, such as Movies in the Park, concerts, the pool, Heritage Days, and the numerous play structures.

Mr. Hazapis is fortunate enough to love his job and enjoys going to work. He has said that the children in the community are awesome and he gets paid to hang out with them. When he is not teaching, he is traveling, reading, cooking or hanging out with his wife Sereena, and children Sophia, Eli and Taelor. He is also a huge Harry Potter fan and loves anything to do with math.
